Duva completes EHXT installation

News release  | 24/03/2021

Idemitsu Petroleum Norge has together with the operator Neptune Energy Norge and the other Duva partners, PGNiG Upstream Norway and Sval Energi completed the successful installation of four Enhanced Horizontal Subsea Tree Systems (EHXT) for the Duva development project in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. The installation was carried out by a vessel, reducing the installation time, cost, and operational emissions.

While a conventional installation of EHXTs would be carried out with a drilling rig, Neptune together with its partners and contractors, conducted the installation using the vessel Far Samson, operated by Solstad Offshore.

Deploying the subsea trees from a vessel saved about 20 days rig time, reducing cost, time, and emissions. The 20 days of reduced rig time is equivalent to approximately $12 million savings for the license partners. By using a vessel instead of a rig, emissions were reduced by more than 60 %.

Futoshi Tsuneyama, Managing Director of Idemitsu Petroleum Norge, says: “This represents an important milestone for Idemitsu Petroleum Norge. By completing this installation, it brings the Duva development one step closer to production start. With the Duva development, Idemitsu Petroleum Norge increases its daily production significantly from our production in the North Sea. The expected daily production from Duva is around 9.000 barrels (Net Production) of oil equivalents per day at maximum production. The Duva Field will become an important contribution to the Idemitsu Petroleum Norge’s portfolio on the NCS.”

About the development:

Duva will be developed with a four-slot subsea template, the field will be tied back to the Gjøa platform for processing and export. The field will have four production wells, three oil producers and one gas producer.
The water depth in the area is about 360 meters. The Gjøa field has been in production since 2010 and is operated by Neptune Energy Norge.

About the Duva field (PL 636)
The Duva field is located 6 kilometers northeast of the Gjøa field (12 kilometers from the Gjøa platform). The shortest distance to shore is 35 km. The discovery was made in production license 636 in August 2016 by exploration well 36/7-4.

License partners: Neptune Energy Norge AS (30% and Operator), Idemitsu Petroleum Norge AS (30%), PGNiG Upstream Norway AS (30%) and Sval Energi AS (10%).
