News release  | 14/11/2024

INPEX Idemitsu Norge AS (“IIN”) (15 %), Equinor Energy AS (Operator; 45 %), and Vår Energi AS (40 %) have discovered oil and gas in wells 35/11-30 S and 35/11-30 A in the Rhombi prospect, located due east of the Fram field in the northern North Sea.

The discovery is the 3rd exploration success for INPEX Idemitsu this year and delivers on the company’s exploration and growth strategy.
Koji Ochiai, Managing Director of IIN

He adds that the discovery will continue the long-term value creation in the Fram area and reinforces the company’s commitment to further developing the area.

The discovery was made in production licence 090, 20 km north of the Troll field, and 96 km south-west of Florø. The well was drilled using the semi-submersible drilling rig Deepsea Atlantic.

The primary and secondary exploration objectives of the well were to prove hydrocarbons in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Sognefjord and Fensfjord formations. Well 35/11-30 S encountered gas in the Sognefjord Formation and well 35/11-30 A proved gas and oil in the in the Sognefjord Formation and oil in the Fensfjord Formation.

The licensees will evaluate the discovery for development via the future or existing Fram infrastructure to Troll C. Production licence 090 is currently planning the future Fram Sør development to extend the production from the field. The Rhombi discovery will add valuable volumes, reducing cost by utilising existing facilities.

INPEX Idemitsu Norge (IIN) is part of INPEX Corporation, Japan’s leading energy enterprise. The company entered the Norwegian Continental Shelf in 1989 by acquiring a stake in the Snorre field. The IIN office is located at Lysaker and currently employs around eighty highly skilled and experienced professionals.
