Commercial oil and gas discovery in the Gjøa area in the North Sea

INPEX Idemitsu Norge AS (“IIN”) (30 %) and partners Vår Energi ASA (Operator 30 %), PGNig Upstream Norge AS (30 %), and Sval Energi AS (10 %) have made an oil and gas discovery in well 36/7-5 S “Cerisa” and sidetracks 36/7-5 A, B, and C north of the Duva and Gjøa fields.

 

She adds that it is positive to see that the company delivers on the area strategy and is well positioned with licences further north of Cerisa including the Operator license PL 1217.  The discovery highlights the potential of the region and reinforces our commitment to expanding our business with low carbon intensity provided by the facilities in the area. We are excited about the opportunities this will bring and look forward to the continued success of our exploration and development efforts.

The discovery was made in production licence 636 just north of the Duva field, 50 kilometres southwest of Florø. Preliminary estimates indicate between 2.9–6.2 million standard cubic metres of oil equivalent (Sm3 o.e.), which corresponds to 18-39 million barrels.

Production licence 636, which was awarded in 2012, already covers the Duva field producing to the Gjøa platform. This makes it possible to develop the Cerisa discovery utilising existing infrastructure to reduce cost and time.

The primary exploration target for the main exploration well was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks in the Agat Formation in the Lower Cretaceous. Three subsequent sidetracks were drilled to appraise the discovery.  The wells were drilled using the Deepsea Yantai rig.
